Lyrics for "World Without Mirrors" by Mission Man

I woke up this morning and the bathroom door was open
I looked inside and saw my mirror broken
There was no glass on the floor
I just couldn’t see my reflection any more
I decided I’d just skip shaving
And tell my boss I’m not misbehaving
On my way to work I felt like a jerk
I couldn’t see myself in my rear view mirror
The picture of the world had gotten less clear
I could look in people eyes and sense their demise
They didn’t have time to overcome the despise
That they felt deep inside for themselves
They didn’t want to be seen by someone else
Everywhere I went all the mirrors were broken
I turned on the TV but the picture wouldn’t open
The magazines had all faded away to nothingness
I thought to myself yeah I’m loving this
I picked up a Polaroid and took a couple photos
When I shook the picture it was a no go
Because on the film it was all a no show

Chorus: A world without mirrors, a world without photography
Would it be better or would it bother me
A world without mirrors, a world without reflection
Would it be better without the self inspection

I looked all around and what I found
Was a very mixed reaction to what had happened
Some people were staring at the mirrors and tapping
Hoping they could fix everything that was wrong
But these were problems they had all their life long
Some were going crazy and committing suicide
Without their vanity they would rather die
All this insanity makes me cry
I wonder what the rest of my life will be like
Now that I’m judged solely for what I do on the mic
That’s a naïve way to look at things
If I believe that this change will only bring
A new level of acceptance and repentance
When it really carries a whole other sentence
People will still judge me based on how I look
Even if they can’t see the cover to their own book
They’ll remember in their mind’s eye and look with a blind eye
No longer knowing who they are
No longer putting on makeup in the car
Everything in the world was based on perceptions
Without reflection the inspection
Is done based on memory
And what their mind wants to see

Chorus: X2
Chorus (extended, sing): A world without mirrors
A world without photography
Would it be better
Or would it bother me
A world without mirrors
A world without reflection
Would it be better
Without the self inspection

I wonder what the world would be like if it were always this way
That is if the mirrors hadn’t broken today
If they had never existed in the first place
Can I imagine the world in this case
No one would be judged on how they look
We wouldn’t need covers for our books
Appearance would have no meaning at all
What about love would it be easier to fall
Without ourselves to compare the world to
There would be so many things we wouldn’t do
The three magical words “I love you”
Would be for the person that’s on the inside
Which is what so many of us try to hide
Everything would have much more meaning
If the world wasn’t seen through the screening
Of beauty and delusions
Because it is all an illusion

(break)

Chorus (spoken once, sung once, just first half)
ending
